Abstract

Increased total cholesterol is associated with the increased incidence of coronary artery disease. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of coronary angiography on serum lipoproteins. After a 12 hour fasting period, serum lipoproteins were measured before and after coronary angiography in 52 patients (33 males, 19 females; mean age:59.75±9.12 years). 5000 IU heparin was administrated intraarterially in all patients. Serum total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG), low density lipoprptein (LDL-C), high density lipoprotein (HDL-C), very low density lipoprotein (VLDL-C), apolipoprotein A1 (apo A1) and apolipoprotein B (apo B) were found as 188.52±20.75 mg/dL, 189. hat coronary angiography may affect serum lipoprotein profiles. This effect should be taken into consideration in the evaluation of lipid profiles.
